    If someone is puckish, they are by other people and like to make light jokes about them. The teasing is playful, not cruel: a look, a grin, a remark that stirs things a little, as if they cannot help it. The word is named after Puck, the mischievous fairy in English folk stories, who also appears in Shakespeare's A Night's Dream. It is a rather or newspaper word; with friends you would more often say cheeky or mischievous. You can call a smile, a comment, or a person's manner puckish. It has nothing to do with ice hockey, even though that puck is spelled the same.
