Pseudo means fake or false - not the real thing, just pretending to be. You'll most often meet it stuck onto the front of another word: pseudoscience (something that looks like science but isn't really tested properly), a pseudonym (a fake name a writer uses). But English speakers also use 'pseudo' on its own, usually as a slightly critical adjective, to call something fake or overly pretending to be clever - 'that whole conversation felt very pseudo.'
