A psephologist is a person who studies how people vote — the numbers, the maps, which places swung, and why a party rose or fell. On election night a newspaper or TV station may invite one to talk through the results. It is a learned, slightly word; in ordinary talk people say election expert or poll analyst. The job is the study called ; the -ist ending marks the person who does it, not the study itself.
