    If people, a family, a shop, or a country prosper, they grow and do well over time, especially by making money or a good profit. It is about a stretch of years, not one lucky day: a café that is packed on Saturday has not prospered yet; a café that is still growing five years later has. You hear it in news about the economy, in speeches, and in wishes (“I hope you prosper”), so it feels a little more formal than “do well” — though actually it is not stiff or rare. Money is usually part of the meaning, but people also use it when a farm or a town stays healthy and strong, not only when someone becomes rich.
