A pronouncement is an official public statement — the kind a government, a court, a company boss, or a religious leader makes, often in a serious voice. It is not a chat and not a quick message from a friend. Though actually, the word can also sound a little teasing: if you call someone’s opinion a pronouncement, you may be saying they spoke as if they were in charge. Newspapers still use it in a straight way for judgments and policy. Do not mix it up with pronunciation (how you say a word). They both sit near pronounce, but they do different work.

組成From Old French prononcement. In English it looks like pronounce + -ment (the act or the result). It is a doublet of pronunciamento — same old root, later a more political-sounding cousin.
