To procreate is to produce children, or baby animals. Biology books, law, and careful writing like this verb because it covers people and other living things in one cool word. Ordinary talk almost never uses it for a family’s plans: people say have a baby, have children, or, for animals, breed. If you say “they want to procreate,” it can sound cold, like a science report about bodies, not a story about a family. Though actually, that cool tone is the point in class or in law: the word names the fact of bringing new life, not the feeling around it.
