To prettify something is to change it so that it looks more attractive — but the word often carries a little . You dressed it up, and in doing that you may have spoiled what was honest, clear, or already fine.
Someone prettifies a report by adding decorations and soft words that hide the bad news. A street gets prettified for tourists: fresh paint, hanging flowers, and the old messy life pushed out of sight. You can prettify data, a story, a room, a website.
Though actually, the tidy dictionary meaning (“make pretty”) is only half of how people use it. In real talk, prettify is often a complaint. If the speaker liked the result, they are more likely to say , tidy up, or beautify. Prettify hints that the prettiness is on the surface, extra, or a bit fake.
It is slightly informal, a little like newspaper language. You will see it in reviews and opinion pieces more than in careful scientific writing — though programmers do say prettify for making code or JSON tidy to look at, and that use is more neutral.
