    Preposterously is how we turn preposterous into a word about manner or degree: in a completely unreasonable or silly way. Prices can be preposterously high; a claim can be preposterously ; someone can preposterously insist they saw nothing. Same feeling as preposterous, just used to say how far something goes, or how it is done. It is formal enough for an essay and colourful enough for a complaint. Though actually, ordinary speech often prefers ridiculously, which is a close friend of this word and easier in everyday talk. You are still saying the thing has gone past what common sense will accept.
