Stories say a hero was predestined to win; two people may feel they were predestined to meet. The tidy religious sense is strict: the ending was written before you arrived. Though actually, younger everyday talk often uses it more softly, almost like “it really felt inevitable” or “this was always going to be your path,” without a church argument behind it. Older sermons are harder-edged. Learners mostly meet this -ed adjective; the verb predestine exists, but it shows up less.
