    Precycling is trying to make less rubbish in the first place, instead of sorting it afterwards. You choose the loose apples, not the ones on a plastic tray; you carry a bag so you do not take a new one; you skip the extra box. The idea is: the greenest package is the one that was never made. Though actually, the name plays with recycling. Pre- here means “before the waste exists,” not “cycle in advance.” It is a newer environmental word, more at home in campaigns and textbooks than in casual chat. Many people do the thing without knowing the English name.
