Pre-loved is a kind word, mostly from advertising, for something that already had an owner. A pre-loved coat, sofa, house, or pet is second-hand — but the seller wants you to feel that the last person looked after it, even loved it, rather than dumped it. That is the whole trick of the word: “used” can sound tired or cheap; “pre-loved” tries to sound warm. You will see it a lot in British and Australian ads, charity shops, and pet-adoption pages. Americans more often say pre-owned for cars and used for almost everything else. Though actually, it does not promise that anyone loved the thing; it only promises it is not new. Treat it as a sales tone, not a hard fact about love. In a school essay, second-hand or used is the clearer, plainer word for what is going on.
pre-loved 是廣告常用的溫和說法，指已經有主人的東西，像「a pre-loved ＿＿」，例如 a pre-loved coat、沙發或房子。它的意思和二手差不多，但賣家希望你感覺到，上一位主人把它照顧得很好，甚至很愛惜，而不是隨便丟掉。這個字的關鍵就在這裡：used 聽起來舊、便宜，pre-loved 則想讓人覺得溫暖。
