Postwar describes anything that happened, or existed, in the years right after a war ended — most often people use it for the time after World War Two. 'Postwar Japan', 'postwar Europe', 'the postwar economy' — the word points to a whole period of rebuilding and change, not just to one single moment after the fighting stopped.
