A possessor is someone who has something — who holds it, owns it, or can show it as theirs. In everyday English it often sounds a bit grand, and people use it with a smile: the proud possessor of a new bike, or of three broken umbrellas. Though actually, lawyers draw a line that ordinary talk blurs. The possessor may simply be the person with the thing in their hands; the owner is the person it belongs to. You can possess a borrowed book without owning it. So the word is not always a fancy synonym for owner, even if that is how it feels in a joke.
