A positivist is a person who holds that view: knowledge should rest on facts you can prove, not on ideas you can only argue about. The same word is also an adjective: a positivist method, a positivist reading of the data. Though actually, in some university departments positivist is not a compliment. It can mean you counted everything and missed what it felt like. The tidy dictionary line makes it sound like the name of the philosophy itself; the philosophy’s name is positivism. This word is the person, or the flavour of the work. Still not “a positive person.”
