Poohsticks is a children's game. Each child drops a stick into a stream on one side of a bridge. The water carries the sticks under the bridge, and the child whose stick comes out first on the other side wins. You need moving water and a bridge; a still pond will not do. The name comes from Winnie-the-Pooh: the English writer A. A. Milne made the game in his book The House at Pooh Corner (1928), and Pooh is the bear. It feels British, outdoor, and a little . Families still play it on a walk. It is often written with a capital P, like a name. Though actually, people also write it with a small p, because it is a real game now, not only a scene in a book. You do not have to know the stories to play.
組成From Pooh + sticks. Coined by the English writer Alan Alexander Milne (1882–1956) in The House at Pooh Corner (1928).
