Polygonal is the describing word for a : a flat outline with three or more straight sides. You use it when you talk about the shape of a thing, not when you name the shape itself. A polygonal table has a straight-sided edge, not a round one. A polygonal tile, a polygonal window, a polygonal field — all of those have that kind of outline. Though actually, in everyday talk many people just say '-shaped' or even 'a funny-shaped…'; polygonal sounds a little more like maths, design, or a textbook. It does not mean 'made of many separate stuck together'. It means the outside line has those straight sides and corners.
