To pollinate a flower or plant is to get pollen onto the part that can use it, so the plant can make seeds. Bees do this as they feed. Wind does it for grass and many trees. Gardeners sometimes do it with a small brush. You pollinate something — the flower, the crop — you do not 'pollinate pollen.' The noun is pollination; the carrier is a pollinator. Though actually, people stretch it a little: a whole orchard can be 'poorly pollinated' if too few bees came that year. It is an ordinary science-and-garden word, not slang and not especially formal.
