A podium is a small platform, higher than the floor around it, that you stand on. Winners stand on a podium to get a medal, and a speaker may stand on a podium to give a speech. In American English, "podium" can also mean the small stand in front of a speaker that holds their notes - though in British English that stand is usually called a "" instead.
