When something is plentiful, there is more than enough of it. Fruit can be plentiful in summer. Rain can be plentiful in a wet month. Work, money, and chances can be plentiful too. It is a calm describing word: you will see it in school books and news more than in chat. In speech people often prefer the noun plenty — “plenty of rice” — and keep plentiful for “rice is plentiful this year.” Though actually, plentiful is not a complaint. It does not mean “too much” in a bad way; it just means there is a lot, enough and then some. A plentiful supply is usually a good thing, unless the rest of the sentence says otherwise.
