An informal blend-word: an artificial material that looks like leather and is used to make jackets, bags, shoes, skirts, and so on. It is cheaper than real leather, and some people choose it because no animal skin is used. In shops you will also hear faux leather, vegan leather, or PU — same kind of idea, sometimes a bit more shop-formal. Pleather is the friendly, slightly name. It can look very close to leather until you touch it, or until it ages; it does not breathe in the same way, and a hot day can make that obvious. It is not a factory-technical name.
