Used of clothes: a pleated skirt, dress, or pair of trousers has a lot of those flat narrow folds. The folds are made on purpose, so the cloth can open and close a little when you move, then hang straight again. School skirts, , and some smart trousers are often pleated. It is the -ed form of , used as an adjective. We describe the clothes this way, not the person wearing them.
