    Pix is a short, informal way of saying pictures or photographs. It started as magazine slang: the US show-business paper Variety began writing pix for pictures in 1916, along with other spellings they called slanguage. You still see it in captions, headlines, and old photo credits. Ordinary conversation now almost always uses photos or pics instead; pix sounds like trade talk, or a bit dated. The x is the same spelling trick as writing pics as pix.
