A pipette is a thin tube, usually glass or clear plastic, for lifting an exact small amount of liquid and putting it somewhere else. You see it in chemistry and biology. A cup or a spoon is too rough when the amount must be right. You do not suck with your mouth when the liquid is a chemical; you use a bulb or a small pump on the end. Some school pipettes are simple. Some lab ones measure very tiny amounts. The word is also a verb: to pipette a liquid is to move it with this tool. It is a lab word, not a kitchen word. Though actually, the name is only French for a little pipe — a small tube.
