A piper is someone who plays a pipe, and very often someone who plays the . In Scotland, at weddings, funerals, and parades, the piper is the person in the with the under their arm. The word is simply pipe plus -er: the player. A pipe here is a wind instrument, not a water pipe in the wall. English keeps two extra pictures students meet early. The Piper is a story: a man in bright clothes who plays a pipe and leads first the rats, then the children, out of a town. And there is a saying, “he who pays the piper calls the tune” — the person who pays gets to decide. Both still rest on the musician. The word is ordinary, not slang; players themselves use it.
