A pingback is an automatic message on the web: when someone a page that links to your page, their site can tell your site "I linked to you." You did not have to ask. Blog software — WordPress is the famous case — used pingbacks so writers could see who was talking about their posts. They are less fashionable now, and many people turn them off because junk sites abused them. Tech English; not a word for daily life.
pingback(網誌自動通知「有人連到你的文章」;繁中介面有時作「引用通知」,技術圈多半直接說 pingback)
組成ping + back: a ping sent back to say "I linked to you."
