The Pima are a Native American people who live in what is now central and southern Arizona in the United States, and in Sonora in northern Mexico.

The supplied source gives no origin for the people's name. It does give one for the cotton: the plant was raised on United States Department of Agriculture experimental farms in Arizona in the early 1900s, and the Pima who helped grow it were honoured in the name.
