A pilgrimage is a journey someone makes to a place that is important to their religion or beliefs, usually somewhere seen as holy or special, like , Jerusalem, or a famous temple. People often make a pilgrimage to show devotion or to search for meaning, and the trip itself is often long and difficult on purpose - the hard journey is part of the point. Today the word is also used more loosely for a trip to any place someone deeply admires, like a fan visiting a musician's hometown.
