Piffle is a slightly old-fashioned, slightly British-sounding word for nonsense — talk that is empty, silly, or not worth listening to. “That’s a load of piffle.” You can also piffle as a verb: to talk that kind of fluff. It is not a swear word; it is more like a . People have used it since the mid-1800s. Nobody is quite sure where it came from: it may mix and trifle, or it may be the sound puff (a little puff of air) plus a small-word ending. Either way, the feeling is light, useless talk.
