A pianist is someone who plays the piano. The word can mean a world-famous concert player, a jazz player, or a student at home with a lesson book — the job or the skill is the same idea. It is the ordinary, slightly careful word; people also say piano player in loose talk. It does not by itself tell you the style of music. In English it is usually stressed on the first part: PEE-uh-nist.
