Photoelectric describes something that uses an electric current which light controls. Light hits a surface, and that makes electricity start, stop, or change. You meet the word in science class with the photoelectric effect: light can knock tiny pieces off metal, and that idea helped show that light comes in little packets. In machines, a photoelectric cell or sensor may sit in a doorway or on a gate; when a beam of light is broken, a door opens or an alarm sounds. So the word is not about holiday photos, though it shares photo-, meaning light. It is a technical, formal word. Ordinary people often say light sensor instead, but engineers and exam papers still say photoelectric.
