A photocall is a set time when photographers take pictures of a famous person or a group — actors after a film, a team after a match, a singer with a new album. The people stand together, often in front of a wall of logos, smile, turn, and hold still while many cameras go off. It is not a long talk with reporters, though people mix the two up. At a press conference you answer questions; at a photocall the job is the pictures. The word is used a lot in British news and showbusiness. In American English people more often say photo opportunity, or photo op for short. It is a media word, not a word you use about family photos at home.
