Philatelic means “about stamp collecting.” If a club, a shop, a magazine, or a show is philatelic, it belongs to the world of people who collect postage stamps for pleasure — not merely to stick one on a letter. The hobby itself is called philately; this word is only the adjective that hangs on that hobby. It is a specialist, slightly technical word. You will not hear it at dinner unless someone in the family already collects stamps. It does not mean charitable, even though it sits near philanthropic in the dictionary.
