Perusal is the noun for reading something, especially slowly and with care — you look through it, not just at the first lines. In letters and at work, people often write “for your perusal” when they send a paper. Though actually, that phrase is frequently just a polite “please look at this,” not a request to study it for an hour. The word feels formal and a little old. You will meet it on documents far more than you will hear it at the dinner table.
