If someone is pertinacious, they keep believing something, or keep doing something, in a very determined way — they do not let go. It is stronger and more formal than “determined.” Though actually, the word often has a little edge: the person may be for not quitting, or because they will not drop the point. You will mostly meet it in books and serious writing, not in the playground. A pertinacious asks again. A pertinacious belief stays even when other people have moved on. It is about holding on hard, not about being on the right topic.
