Persuasion is the act of getting someone to do or believe something, usually by giving them reasons rather than forcing them. 'A little persuasion' means some gentle convincing was needed. The word is also used, a bit more formally, to describe a person's belief or group — 'people of a different political persuasion' just means people who think differently about .
