Perspicacity is the name of a quality: being good at judging people and situations, and understanding what is really going on. A person with perspicacity does not stop at the first story they hear. They notice small signs, they think carefully, and they see through what is only on the surface. It is a formal, slightly word. You will meet it in praise (“She showed great perspicacity”), not in everyday chat. Though actually, it is not the same as being clever at school, and it is not the same as being suspicious. Suspicious people look for trouble; perspicacity looks for the truth of the situation.

組成From Middle French perspicacité, or from Latin perspicācitās (sharpsightedness), from perspicāx (sharp-sighted), from perspicio: per- (through) + specio (I see) — “see through something.” The ending -acity names the quality.
