Perpetration is the noun for the doing of something morally wrong or illegal — the act itself, not the person. We speak of the perpetration of a crime, of fraud, of violence: it names the carrying-out. It is formal, the kind of word that lives in reports and law more than in the corridor. If you need the person, that is perpetrator; if you need the verb, that is perpetrate. A sentence like “the perpetration was arrested” has grabbed the wrong noun. It does not mean a long-lasting state (that temptation belongs to perpetual / perpetuate).
