From Latin 'pensio' (a payment, an installment), from 'pendere' 'to weigh, to pay out' — in old times money was literally weighed on a scale. So a pension is money 'weighed out' to you at fixed times.
源自拉丁文 pensio（一筆給付、一期款項），來自動詞 pendere「秤重、付出」——古時付錢是把金屬秤出重量。所以 pension 的底色就是「按期秤量、發放出去的錢」。
