    a sweet juicy fruit with a round bottom that gets narrower towards the top, usually green or yellow; also the tree that this fruit grows on.

    「pear」就是我們說的梨子：下面圓圓的、越往上越細，咬下去又甜又多汁（台灣的水梨、進口的西洋梨都是 pear）。英文的水果名常常一詞兩用，pear 也可以直接指「結梨子的那棵樹」，所以 We planted a pear （我們種了一棵梨樹）聽起來很自然，不一定要說 a pear tree。它是可數名詞，一顆是 a pear，很多顆要加 s（two pears）。

You can picture a pear as a fruit with a fat, round bottom that as it goes up to the stem — a soft bell shape sitting on the table, green or yellow, sweet and full of juice when you bite it. The same word also names the tree it grows on.
