    The payee is the person or company who should get the money. You meet the word on and bank forms: there is a line for the payee, and that is who the bank must pay. It is a quiet office word. You would not use it when you hand a friend cash; you would just say their name. Though actually, the idea is the same for a bank transfer too: the payee is the one who receives, not the one who sends. Banks like to talk about the payee and the payer as a pair, so the two sides stay clear.
