A pay-per-view television service makes you pay for each programme you watch, not for a whole channel all month. The classic picture is a big boxing match, a wrestling show, or a film you buy for one night on cable. You order it, you pay once, you watch that one thing. People often it to PPV. It was a huge cable-TV idea in the 1990s and 2000s. Streaming has eaten a lot of everyday films, though actually live sports and special events still sell this way, and older people may still say pay-per-view for any one-off TV purchase. It is a bit technical, a bit old-cable, and very normal in sports talk. It is not a monthly subscription, even if you buy several shows in one month.
pay-per-view 指按次付費的電視服務，你每看一個節目就付一次費，而不是按整個頻道每個月繳費。典型的例子是一場拳擊賽、一場摔角，或是一晚的電影。常縮寫成 PPV。現在很多電影改在串流上看，但現場的運動賽事和特別活動還是常用這種方式賣。它和每月訂閱不一樣，就算一個月買了好幾場，也還是一場一場買。
