    Pasteurized describes a liquid, usually milk, that has already been heated in that special way to kill harmful bacteria. “Pasteurized milk” is the everyday milk in the supermarket. The word is not a flavour and not a brand; it only tells you how the drink was treated. The opposite you will see is unpasteurized (sometimes called raw), which some cheese-makers still use. Though actually, pasteurized milk is still “fresh” milk that needs the fridge — it has not been cooked as hard as the long-life milk that sits on a shelf.
