A climbing plant with large, strange, beautiful flowers. The name is not about romance. Church people in Italy and Spain looked at the flower and mapped its parts onto the Passion of Christ: the fringe like a crown of thorns, and so on. So the name is Passion + flower, copied from Italian fior della Passione or Latin flōs Passiōnis, “flower of the Passion”. It climbs with tendrils and likes warm weather. Though actually, in Taiwan you are more likely to meet the fruit first. Same group of plants.
西番蓮。台灣更常碰到的是同植物的果實「百香果」；也有人叫熱情花，但那容易聯想到愛情，名字其實來自基督受難。
