"Particulate" describes something made of many tiny, separate pieces - so small you often can't see each one alone. It's mostly a science and pollution word: "particulate matter" (often written PM2.5) means the tiny bits of dust, smoke, and dirt floating in air that can be bad for your lungs. Doctors, news reports, and air-quality apps use this word a lot, especially in Taiwan when talking about air pollution.
