Parasailing is a holiday sport at the beach. You are strapped into a harness under a parachute, a rope connects you to a speedboat, and as the boat drives away the wind lifts you up into the air. You hang there, high above the water, for a few minutes while the boat pulls you along, and then it slows down and you come gently back down — sometimes onto the boat's deck, sometimes into the sea. The key thing is that you are being pulled the whole time and you do not steer. That makes it very different from paragliding, where you jump from a hill and fly on your own with no rope. Parasailing needs almost no skill or training, which is why it is sold to tourists by the hour at seaside resorts in Kenting, Penghu, Thailand, and just about anywhere warm with a boat. The word is usually uncountable and used with 'go': 'we went parasailing'. The equipment is a parasail; the person doing it is a parasailer.
