    Pangaea is the name of the one huge land that, about 300 to 225 million years ago, was Earth’s only continent. All the dry land we now call Africa, Europe, Asia, the Americas, Australia and Antarctica was joined in that one piece. In time it broke into two great lands that school books call and (though actually many scientists now just say Gondwana, without “land”). Those later broke again into the continents on today’s map. The name was made by the German scientist Alfred Wegener in 1915, when he argued that the continents had slowly moved. You will also see the spelling Pangea. It is a proper name, so it takes a capital P.
