    Panelling is the wood itself: the long or square pieces used to cover and a wall. You can point at it. “The panelling is oak” means those boards on the wall are oak. It often goes from the floor part-way up, or all the way to the ceiling, and you can see the joins. British English uses this double-l spelling; American English usually paneling. Though actually, the same spelling can also mean the work of putting those pieces up, but the meaning you will meet first is the covering — the wood as a thing in the room, not the job of fitting it.
