If you are pally with someone, you are very friendly with them — easy, close, like pals. It is informal. You hear it a lot in British English: “They’ve got quite pally.” Americans more often say buddy-buddy or tight, though they will still understand pally. Though actually, it is not always warm praise. Said with a little doubt — “a bit too pally with the boss” — it can mean the friendship looks too close, as if someone wants a favour. The voice of the sentence tells you which. People also talk about a pally manner: a warm, familiar way of speaking that can feel a touch too familiar for the room. You usually say pally with someone, not just pally alone.
