Pained describes someone’s face, look, voice, or smile when it shows they are worried, upset, or a little — as if something has hurt their feelings, not always their body. A pained expression is the tight, uncomfortable look people wear when news is bad, or when they do not want to hear what you just said. A pained voice sounds as if the words cost something. It is milder than screaming pain: the person may sit quietly and still look pained. Painful usually describes the thing that causes hurt (a painful cut, a painful subject). Pained more often describes the person, or how they appear. Though actually, the person may not be in strong body pain at all — they may only look a little hurt or offended. It is not slang, and it is not as heavy as tortured.
組成From pain + -ed. The -ed ending here makes an adjective: showing hurt, worry, or slight annoyance in the face or voice.
