You can think of this other 'page' as a young attendant who waits on someone important and runs to fetch them when called. From that serving-boy picture come the historical roles (the knight's , the wedding boy, the Congress ) and — because a page was the one sent to summon people — the modern verb: to page someone is to call out for them or buzz their so they come. This is a different word from the paper page; they only share a spelling.
